Think of it this way - would you rather watch the English War of the Roses via some kids educational program or via a Game of Thrones-style show filled with colorful characters with their own identity? And it's all from the same voice, even though you literally have a hero unit there on the field who I'd much rather hear speak instead. Which is made worse by the fact that it isn't only in the scenario intros and outros, but all throughout each mission - you get a little narration for practically every mission objective you complete. I have a feeling a lot of people are just gonna skip the cinematics after the first time because once you've learned the factoids, you don't really have any attachment to the tale to want to hear the words again. This is fine for learning history, but not for living history. Now we hear the same voice presenting everything in the style of your typical NatGeo (History Channel doesn't count - that monstrosity has been dead to me for ages) host, which both takes away from the quirky feel of each story as well as introduces a certain emotional distance from the tale being told. But they seem to have gone for a more educational documentary type of presentation this time, as opposed to hearing the story from the perspective of the people actually there - complete with the personality and mannerisms befitting each viewpoint character. The cinematics and smooth transitions and all of that looks top notch. Don't get me wrong, the visual presentation looks great.
